History
Why should fighters have all the fun? Arts & Sciences can have duels as well.
They are totally unofficial and friendly. They are akin to pick up fights by the fighters,
a way to stretch your skills and have fun with your chosen art or science form!
Why enter an A&S Duel?
- Have fun
- Test your mettle
- Spotlight the many and varied A&S forms that are practiced in the SCA
- Encourage others to get involved in A&S and in your A&S form
- Encourage yourself and your opponent to stretch in your chosen A&S form
- Learn more about your A&S form
- Get feedback on your project
- Produce cool things
- Encourage others to follow your lead in creating cool things
- Did I mention, HAVE FUN!?!
What is an A&S Duel?
- They are akin to pick up fights by the fighters
- They are totally unofficial and friendly
- You can challenge a friend, or someone you want to learn from
- Just remember to be polite, courteous and fun
- It can be announced, or unannounced
- How a winner is determined is completely up to you and your "opponent"
- Whether or not the results are published or announced is up to the two of you as well
How do I have an A&S Duel?
Challenge someone
- Either contact a specific person and challenge them privately
- Or publish a public challenge asking if anyone who practices that A&S form would like
to join in a duel
- DO NOT publicly challenge a person. If they don’t want to be part of the duel, they
might not appreciate the public challenge. Contact them privately before you publicize
the duel.
Decide on the details
- Work with your opponent to decide:
- What the project will be
- What the parameters are
- Will you publicize the challenge
- Will you display your projects at the judging event (Please do!)
- Who will be the judge
- Contact your choice for judge and ask if they will judge your projects
- Work with the judge and your opponent to:
- What the judging parameters will be
- When they judging will be
- Where the judging will be (Online, in person, etc.)
Have fun working on your project
Get together with your opponent and judge on “the day” and hopefully share your projects
with us all!
History
2021 The A&S Duel Challenge was first presented by Hallr Brjost Starsson in 2021, with the projects
to be presented and judged at Dreiburgen Summer Arts. Due to Covid the event was virtual and
the judging was done online outside of the event.
2022 The duel(s) will be judged and displayed at the in-person event this year.
